It is with deep pride and joy that we share the extraordinary milestone achieved by the organization Ayuda en Accion, which has been honored with the prestigious “Oscar Arnulfo Romero” Ibero-American Award for Human Rights Education. This award, presented by the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI) and the SM Foundation, honors the profound impact of its “Light to Learn” program—a monumental effort that has completely transformed the educational landscape in the continent’s most remote rural communities.
At the heart of this award-winning project lies the effort to break down the geographical and technological barriers that limit children’s development. Through the installation of photovoltaic solar energy modules and internet connectivity systems, “Luz para aprender” has succeeded in simultaneously bringing electricity and digital tools to schools that historically lacked these basic services. This comprehensive initiative not only equips teachers with modern teaching resources but also transforms schools into vibrant community hubs where local youth and adults can receive training in trades and digital literacy in the evenings.
Receiving this international award reaffirms that access to technology and renewable energy in classrooms is, at its core, an act of social justice and a defense of human rights. By improving the learning conditions for thousands of rural children, Ayuda en Acción not only combats school dropout rates but also lays the groundwork for sustainable and self-reliant community development. This well-deserved recognition inspires us all and shows us that, with vision, commitment, and innovative solutions, it is entirely possible to bridge social gaps and build a more equitable future.
