Celebrating those who dedicate their lives to caring for the lives of others is one of the most meaningful ways to build a stronger region. That is why we are delighted to share that the Carlos Slim Foundation, a key ally of our network, has launched the 20th Call for Applications for the Carlos Slim Health Awards, a distinction that for two decades has recognized outstanding researchers and institutions throughout Latin America and the Caribbean whose work has improved the lives of thousands of people.
The call includes two award categories. The Health Award for Exceptional Institutions recognizes public and private nonprofit organizations whose academic programs or fieldwork initiatives provide innovative and effective solutions in public health, whether through healthcare delivery, prevention, research, or human talent development. The Health Award for Research Excellence and Career Achievement honors individuals dedicated to research whose work has generated solutions to some of the most pressing health challenges facing the region.
The impact of these twenty years speaks for itself: 1,681 applications have been received from 23 countries, and 45 institutions and researchers from 13 countries across the region have been honored, each receiving a USD 100,000 award. Applications are accepted from August 1 through November 30, 2026, at www.premiosensalud.org, and will be evaluated by an independent international jury composed of leaders in the field, academic institutions, research centers, international organizations, and previous award recipients. Results will be announced no later than May 2027.
At Unidos en Red, we enthusiastically encourage organizations to apply and share this opportunity. We are proud that an ally such as the Carlos Slim Foundation has sustained this recognition for twenty years, highlighting the scientific and social talent of Ibero-America and reminding us that behind every research project and every community program are thousands of lives forever changed.
