The document will be included in the electronic devices of the patrols and will be carried by all Civil Guard units this summer.
The ONCE Foundation, in alliance with the Civil Guard, presented this Tuesday in Madrid a pictogram guide to facilitate communication between the meritorious and people with cognitive difficulties.
The presentation took place at Fundación ONCE’s ‘Por Digital Talent’ headquarters in Madrid and was attended by the General Director of the Civil Guard, Leonardo Marcos, and the executive vice president of Fundación ONCE, Alberto Durán.
At the event, those responsible for the project explained to the attendees that the document has simple drawings to facilitate the relationship between the Civil Guard and people with cognitive difficulties when it comes to obtaining information or filing a complaint.
The document will be available from this summer in all Corps Units and will be included in electronic devices such as tablets and computers available to patrols.
As Marcos indicated, it is an initiative framed in the Sustainability Plan of the Corps, which responds to the commitment to “help vulnerable groups”, attending to their needs and ensuring their safety. In this sense, he assured that the Civil Guard will continue to facilitate the fluid and direct relationship with NGOs, with vulnerable victims and with groups with special needs to access public services.
For his part, Alberto Durán highlighted the “strategic collaboration” that both entities have maintained for years. “We are collaborating on projects such as care for people with disabilities who walk the Camino de Santiago and now with this new initiative we are going to facilitate communication for all those people who have problems understanding our language,” he said.
From this perspective, the objective of the guide is that people with intellectual or developmental disabilities, with mental disorders that affect speech and comprehension, with hearing disabilities or with a low level of literacy can establish communication with the Civil Guard in the comfortable, autonomous and safe as possible.
The notebook, which has a total of 46 pages, will be translated into English and French so that foreign tourists can communicate more efficiently with any Civil Guard patrol.
The pictogram guide includes emergency situations in which people with cognitive difficulties can be seen, such as robberies, assaults, accidents or procedures that require the use of one of these drawings or a combination of several to explain it.
Thus, a first page for generic use will allow the civil guards to address these people to find out their status and ask them what has happened. Once the problem is defined, the agents will go to the corresponding annex of the guide that will contain the logical sequence of specific actions aimed at providing a solution to the incident raised.
