Greenpeace: First steps for an International Treaty against plastics?

Every minute a garbage truck is dumped into the sea. One only has to look around to see how plastic pollution is out of control and a persistent and growing problem. To try to face this crisis, the fifth session of the UN Environmental Assembly (UNEA 5) begins on Monday 28 in Nairobi (Kenya) with the aim of achieving a legally binding international treaty on the management of plastic.

For the first time, 193 countries will sit down to rethink how we make, use, trade, transport and manage plastics. These talks for a treaty that includes the entire life cycle of plastics, aim to address this crisis on a global scale. This is an opportunity for governments from around the world, including Spain, to join this global and ambitious treaty to curb plastic pollution.

The importance of this law is evident since Spain cannot miss the opportunity to seriously legislate against a global problem such as plastic pollution.
