Venezuela sin Límites joins the Orange Coalition in alliance with the United Nations Population Fund

In alliance with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), private sector organizations and Venezuelan civil society celebrated the launch of the Orange Coalition.

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Venezuela, private sector and civil society organizations: Cinex, Sport for Development, Digitel, Evenpro, Impact Hub, Leather Heart, Propulso, Venevision, Vikua, and Wawa and Venezuela sin Límites; They agreed to join forces and enhance the power of alliances to contribute to the reduction of maternal mortality, family planning needs and gender-based violence.

Eleven organizations from the private sector and Venezuelan civil society met at the UNFPA offices to celebrate the launch of the “Orange Coalition”, a space to design forms of collaboration and joint actions that ensure rights and options for all people, especially women. , youth and adolescents in the country.

During the meeting, Jorge González Caro, UNFPA National Representative, reviewed with the attendees the organization’s 2022-2025 Strategic Plan, which includes 6 accelerators for achieving its objectives: 1. Human rights and gender approaches, 2. Innovation and digitization, 3. Data and evidence, 4. Resilience and adaptation, 5. The principle of the 2030 Agenda of “Leaving No One Behind” and 6. Alliances and financing.

González Caro emphasized “for us (UNFPA), alliances with all sectors of society are necessary and it is not possible to achieve our goals and objectives without our allies in the sectors of government, academia, private companies, civil society organizations, among others.  We all have much to contribute. Joining forces in a coordinated manner is a key driver for accelerating the achievement of these shared goals. That is why this meeting is so important”.

The space also allowed each of the organizations present to highlight their contributions to the plan, promoting the identification of synergies and potentialities to further promote these actions through the capacities and coordination of knowledge.

This first meeting was attended by Nalia Rodríguez, Cinex Social Responsibility Manager; Héctor González, Director of Sport for Development; Santiago Otero, president of Evenpro; Claudia Valladares, Director of Impact Hub Caracas; Mariangel Molina, Director of Corazón de Cuero; Nakari Contreras, Coordinator of Social Responsibility of Propulso; María Ignacia Arcaya, Director of Social Impact and Institutional Relations of Venevisión; Margarita Oropeza, External Relations Manager of Venevisión; and representative of Digitel; Juan José Pocaterra, Director of Vikua, María Fernanda Vera, Director of La Wawa and Jimmy Pérez, Director of the Download Zone and our founder and president Mireya Blavia de Cisneros.

In addition to the National Representative, Carlos Gutiérrez, Resource Mobilization and Strategic Alliances Officer, also participated for UNFPA; Nayra Gutiérrez, Coordinator of Communications and Program Officers, together with Alejandro Pérez, Officer of Alliances and Financing for Development of the Office of the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System in Venezuela.

In addition to the start of the new UNFPA Strategic Plan 2022-2025, the third space was part of the edition of the Business Sustainability Forum Venezuela 2022, which was declared in permanent session after bringing together more than 100 companies on July 8, and the beginning of the celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the presence in the country of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

The deal:

The organizations participating in the launch of the “Orange Coalition” (name derived from the orange colour that is linked to the promotion of the end of violence against women, adolescents and girls and that also identifies UNFPA), agreed on the following points:

  1. Establish the Orange Coalition to unite inter-institutional efforts to contribute to the reduction of maternal mortality, family planning needs and gender-based violence.
  2. Promote sexual and reproductive rights, the empowerment of women and adolescents, as well as gender equality, including approaches to environmental sustainability and “Leave No One Behind”, in our organizations and for different audiences.
  3. Promote dialogue and invite other key actors and sectors to summarize the Coalition.
  4. Maintain spaces for dialogue and synergy that favour the strengthening of this Coalition.

This platform will bring together efforts from different sectors to end unmet needs for family planning, end preventable maternal deaths, and end gender-based violence and harmful practices.

Joint actions will be held in the coming weeks and it is hoped that a balance of the results achieved will be achieved before the year’s end.
