DOWN SPAIN and KIABI promote emotional education from childhood for people with Down syndrome

Emotional education has become a key tool for well-being and the prevention of mental health problems. With this premise, Emociones Down was born, a pioneering program that works on emotional management in people with Down syndrome from an early age.

“We detected disruptive behaviors in young people entering the workforce and realized that they needed tools to identify, express, and manage their emotions,” explains María Antonia Juan, program coordinator and manager of Down Valladolid.

Thanks to the support of KIABI, the program is carried out through practical workshops that address real-life situations in family, educational, and work environments. Its methodology is based on four pillars: recognizing one’s own emotions, learning to manage them, identifying emotions in others, and applying this in relationships.

Juan emphasizes that ‘there are no negative emotions’ and highlights the essential role of families as reference models, insisting that emotional education should be practiced in everyday life, not just in occasional workshops.
