Our partner Down España has launched the inspiring project “Let’s Talk About the SDGs” (Down Syndrome Goals). This initiative, developed in collaboration with the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, connects the needs of this community with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), demonstrating that building a prosperous planet is impossible if we leave anyone behind.
At the heart of the project is a series of dynamic videos in which young people and adults with Down syndrome themselves describe the barriers they face on a daily basis. Far from seeking pity, the participants have selected four key issues for public debate: accessibility in urban spaces, mental health, sexual orientation, and gender-based discrimination. Through their own testimonies, the campaign aims to spark deep reflection among the public and move beyond mere internal awareness to a social demand for compliance with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
At Unidos en Red, we proudly celebrate this initiative that highlights autonomy and self-determination. “Let’s Talk About People with Disabilities” reminds us that true inclusion does not depend on the will of people with disabilities or their families, but on society’s ability to remove barriers in schools, the workplace, and the community. By giving them a voice and a leading role, this project not only empowers young people to defend themselves against potential violations but also calls on society as a whole to recognize and respect the value of human diversity.
