Under the title Youth responds to the emergency, Ayuda en Acción has launched today a collaborative publication where more than 50 young people reflect the solutions of their generation in the face of the climate crisis. The launch of the publication coincides with the celebration of COP27, the largest world event on climate change, which on the 10th will allocate a thematic day to the participation of youth and future generations in the response to this global challenge.
Vindication of youth for the consequences they will suffer
“We are living through an unprecedented social, economic and environmental crisis where youth cannot be left behind. With publications like Youth Responds, we want to vindicate the importance of listening to and taking into account the ideas and concerns of the generation that is suffering the most and will suffer the consequences of the climate crisis,” says Begoña Rodríguez, lPlanet4All coordinator at Ayuda en Acción.
Most of the articles have been written by young people from the lPlanet4All project of Ayuda en Acción where, during two school years, more than 4,000 students from institutes and universities have cooperatively debated their own solutions around sustainable consumption, ecofeminism, climatic migrations or the role of education for sustainability.
“Does increasing the presence of women in decision-making make it easier to achieve sustainability and equality?” or “what should we change in the education system to be more prepared for the climate emergency?” These are some of the questions on which the publication reflects. In addition, recognized and media voices have participated with different articles such as the journalist and corporate director of Público, Ana Pardo de Vera, the founder and director of EFE Verde, Arturo Larena, or the president of the Association of Environmental Information Journalists, María García from the source.
Youth Responds will also be presented at an event open to the public on November 23 at La Casa Encendida, Madrid. It is about climate crisis. Youth respond, shall we listen?, a round table on the importance of intergenerational dialogue in the search for solutions to the climate crisis. The conversation will be moderated by Belén Hinojar (Climabar) and will include the participation of Junior Report (La Vanguardia), Elsa Arnáiz, director of Talent for the Future and Nacho Ruiz, teacher and member of Teachers for Future, as well as young people from the project . It will also have a zero row where young representatives of different political parties will participate, as well as a space for questions from the public.
